5 Apps Berlin Really Needs
by James and Zoe
Summerfy
Berlin winters getting you down? Can’t bear another miserable grey sky? We have the perfect solution with our Summerfy app! Using augmented reality our app can turn the most depressing of scenes into a beautiful summer’s day. Simply point your mobile device at whatever is bumming you out and see it transformed instantly. Berlin – and Berliners – never looked so good!
iProtest
Berliners’ favourite pastime just got social! Now you can earn badges, as well as bragging rights, when you attend the city’s countless demonstrations. Stick it to The Man and be crowned Green God/dess, Nuclear Reactor, Nazi Hunter or Baby Bugger-Off-er. One day you could be the proud owner of the coveted WTF?! badge, issued when everyone is rallied together to protest, but no one seems to know why.
Buskamatic
This app recreates the Berlin busker experience in all its horror. Bursting with over 100 badly-sung songs, played poorly on outmoded instruments, Buskamatic will annoy your fellow commuters just like the real deal! With styles like “Atonal Accordion”, “Ballad Bollocks” and “Fuck off Folk”, you’ll blend seamlessly with your busker buddies, and wonder how you ever lived – and paid the rent – without this mobile music maker.
Find-a-Pfand
The Berlin streets aren’t exactly paved with gold, but every other bin contains treasure – bottles that can be returned for a deposit, or Pfand. Find-a-Pfand hacks Google Maps to show the location of the bottle banks and trash cans that are overflowing with glass goodies, and the closest place to collect your cents. The bottle icons glow red when collection time approaches – get there fast to pick up your pay day!
Angry Berliners
Sick of dealing with German bureacracy? Why not take out your frustrations on this classic strategy game?! Fire your Angry Berliner through webs of red tape, topple over mountains of paperwork, and repeatedly bang his head against brick walls, in order to defeat the pencil-pushing Office Pigs. With over 200 levels available in the App Store, you’ll really be getting somewhere – unlike in real life. Angry Berliner soft toys coming soon!

Love the “Angry Berliners”!!!! Love your blog!
..late to this but heh
You know what they say, if you’ve thought about it, chance is it may actually be out there already… At least for Pfand, I recently came across an article about a website that connects bottle collectors and “donors”, no really:
http://pfandgeben.de/
Crazy! Actually, a pretty good idea – but they need some mechanism for deciding who to give your bottles too. A profile, a la fundraising pages? Brilliant.

Hilarious. Hope to meet you soon again!
Would love to catch up again Angie!
This is absolutely freaking awesome! You guys are so creative. Totally funny. Love it.
Thanks for all the kind comments guys. It’s good to see that you enjoy reading the post as much as we enjoyed making it!
Now back to Angry Berliners – I’m on the last level, which is a convoluted obstacle course where the ultimate prize is German citizenship.
Jiiieeehaaa!! Great Apps. I love the first one and definitely need it!!! It’s summertime….;-)
your ideas are brilliant
and many thx for mentioning our http://kiezexplorer.com/ iPhone App in the article!!
aw shucks thanks
Haha! You are so great!
To say it with Daily Deutsch: I threw myself almost away for laughing!
lol got to love that turn of phrase!
Genius.
Busy thinking of the Munich equivalents. One would be a simple app that amplifies your voice threefold. Another that you hold in front of your eyes to give you the reverse-panda tan, like you get from ski-goggles. A guide to teh best sidewalks to park on with your expensive car. And a dictionary that translates schiki-miki into German. Or English. Or anything.
ROFL! Hopefully we’ve started a trend (meme?) here, and we’ll get to see more like these. The reverse-panda tan app would be pretty hilarious to see!
I totally want iProtest!
you forgot the “dodge the dogshit” app
good call!
especially useful when the hundescheisse’s hiding under a layer of snow!
agreed!anyway…all of them much needed
this is amazing. angry berliners is surely my favorite.
Genius, the first is my favourite, I must get that!
We need a Mate-Alert that rings an alarm when the Mate stocks in nearby shops run so low that you need to get there quickly before the last remaining bottle is sold.
haha thanks! Now we’re getting dangerously close to something that would actually be useful *MATE KLAXON!*
hillarious. love it!
Thanks Roy. Just been flicking through your (hilarious) blog too – good work! What did you think of Newcastle, England?
Don’t know if you picked up any German when you were here, but we’d love it if you’d do a Daily Deutsch Doodle. Like these:
