Sweet Männertag/Vatertag/Christi Himmelfahrt we’ve got another long German weekend coming up. That’s why we’re especially pumped to be giving away two pairs of tickets to see the crushing crushdom of sludge-stoner crushers – Torche!

Formed ten years ago in Miami, Florida, Torche have just released their fourth doom-pop opus, Restarter. The album finds them laying down some of their heaviest material to date and continuing to refine the band’s defiant metal-non-metal attitude.

We are teaming up with Landstreicher Konzerte and giving away two pairs of tickets for Torche’s show at Bi Nuu next Saturday. Just leave us a comment below with the answer to this question:

If you could invent a German public holiday to replace Männertag, what would it be called?

You have until midnight on Tuesday 12th May to enter. GOOD LUCK!

The Boring Bit (yawn, RULES):

1. You must be 18 years or older to enter.
3. We will keep a record of each comment in a database and then a random number generator picks the winner.
4. Remember to include your full (real) name and email address, so we can contact you if you win.
5. We will notify the winners via email on Wednesday 13th May.

Music Montag: WILDE

by James Glazebrook

Such feels. Part-time Berliner Giselle Mapp has been splitting her time between here and her hometown of Toronto for two years now. Back in Canada, she works on crystalline productions with the remainder of WILDE, Brandon Merenick and Olutobi “Nyra” Akinwumi, while she spends her time in Berlin seemingly collecting experiences and, yes, more feels. At the risk of projecting, we can hear the self-reflection imposed by time spent abroad in Mapp’s introspective lyrics:

When I wrote this song, I was going through a lot of feelings, and emotions about who I was, where I am going. There were so many colours and shades of myself layering each other. So I wanted to be reminded, and when I was I felt sure again. I felt the best part of myself that kept me going, coming back, ready to help and love the rest of me. You’ll find the best part of yourself flashing by you, and in an instant, it’s gone again. But it will be there, and it will always come back. Like a whisper in the ear, you’ll remember it, like soft words.

Submerge yourself in “Flashlight”, and go to WILDE’s website for updates on the forthcoming EP, which includes remixes by Nick Catchdubs and Esta of Soulection. Should be deep.

überlin: a virtual tour

by James Glazebrook

In Germany, Google are like vampires – you have to let them in. The Street View of our Kiez may be so blurry you feel the need for a cataract check,  but now we have an awesome, interactive 360° tour of the inside of our space. And all because we because we invited, not exactly Google, but the people from Innenpanoramafoto, to come and shoot the interior of the überlin coworking space and photo studio.

Now available in Google Maps, and embedded above, is our new virtual tour. Have a click around and explore our space, where the only blurry bits are our faces. Easter egg: see if you can find where Olive is hiding!
